Should you pay a bill
from your provider immediately?
Always wait for
an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from your insurance
company before you pay anything. This
EOB lists the details and charges from your provider
visit, and lets you know what portion of those charges
is being paid by the insurance company. Once
your EOB arrives, compare it to your provider’s
bill and carefully look at:
- Dates of service
- Descriptions of service
- Amounts covered in full or in part by your insurance
company
If the EOB accurately reflects your provider’s
bill, the balance due should be the same on both documents. If
there are any discrepancies, call your provider. However,
if your EOB does not seem to reflect the treatment
you received or your policy benefits, call your insurance
company right away.
